Features Request: bitrate detection average

phoenix1of1
Hi, stumbled on "Fakin The Funk", it's a handy program with a great interface but just wondered if a switch can be introduced to allow the detection of "average" bitrates?

I've seen a number of tracks get false positives based on bitrate but as we all know, FLAC is a VBR format so depending on the complexity of the audio at a given point in a piece of music, the bitrate is likely to fluctuate with peaks and troughs in accordance with the complexity of a musical passage so detecting bitrate as an absolute would trigger more false positives whereas calculating the average of a given track's bitrate and then matching it against the bitrate listed in the header information with a tolerance of 15% may be a somewhat better approach to reducing false positives based on bitrate analysis.

With this in mind, adapting the detection method to allow a user to use bitrate averages may be the better way forward.

Another alternative method is an option to allow the bitrate to be displayed on the horizontal axis would allow the user to make a quick judgement. Bitrate over time, in keeping with the frequency information over time, would match up very visibly so a user could very quickly determine if a flag was false or not. This approach would have the added benefit of not having to make any changes to the detection mechanism of FTF, at which point, if the bitrate peaks and troughs match with the frequency information, a user can then continually to manually override a flag and set it to "OK".

Let me know your thoughts on the above.

All in all though, FTF does simplify the process and was worth supporting by buying.

Kind Regards
