flac rips showing as 128?

blueperil
Hi,
I've noticed that some of the files I've ripped to flac are showing 128's in FTF:

they all show activity above the 128 cut off. I thought and would expect a 128 file would look like this:

many thanks.

Hey,

these spectrums are really more than questionable...

Yes, there are "signals" present, but they look more like lousy overtones.
You can see, there is a clear kind of cutoff at ~7Khz. It's not a "smooth" spectrum as one would expect for a clean flac file.

It looks more like a Fraunhofer MP3 transcoded to flac than a real, true flac file.

Therefore, I'd agree with Mr. Funk: They look fake to me :-)

Kind regards
Ulrich

Thanks for the quick reply.

I've just ripped these to wav and ran FTF again. The results & graphs are exactly the same. (I ripped the flacs so was pretty sure that wasn't the problem).

All these songs are off the same compilation of early 90's dance music (the rest of the CD is high quality). I've since found most of them at higher bit rates, so it's not down to the original recording.

I've found the same thing on a few other compilations too.

Guess I should be trusting Mr Funk and not blindly thinking a cd would be the best source.

Thanks again.
